Today ACJ participates at the UN Global Study on Children Deprived of Liberty: Sub – regional launch in Pretoria, South Africa, at the Center for Human Rights. It has been observed in the key note speeches that society should be more forgiving towards child offenders.

It was also noted that children are at the heart of sustainable development, which gives us a reason children must be a focus of all investments and deprivation of liberty must be of last resort, and use of alternative sentencing for children be emphasized in our countries. Justice Albie Sachs, former Judge of the Constitutional Court of South Africa, observed that there entrenched constitutional obligations for countries to protect and fulfilling the rights of children. And one of ways to protect children is letting them be children.
