ACJ believes that supporting effective legislative and enforcement systems along with improved protection and response capacity to protect children from all forms of abuse, neglect, exploitation and violence, including exploitative child labour will help push for mechanisms in place to protect them from harm.
The organisation in association with Plan International Zambia held an awareness raising campaign on children’s legal rights at Mukalashi Primary School in Chibombo District . Approximately 350 pupils ( 190 boys and 160 girls) were reached. Members of the Child Rights Clubs (CRC), School Council, teachers and community members participated in the event.
The campaign was held to create awareness on children’s legal rights and engage schools (School Councils members and members of the community) in promoting best practices in the administration of child justice as well as educate school going child on the risks, vulnerability and preventive measures of breaking the law.
Some of the legal rights that were emphasized during the campaign were rights to health, nutrition, education, protection and freedom from violence and exploitation to promote a safe and supportive environment which should be child friendly especially for children in difficult circumstances.
Children and community members of Chibombo are now aware of their role in pushing for best practices in the administration of child justice .
