Psycho-Social Counselors Training Workshop

Psycho-social counselling training which was held in Ndola on 4th-5th May was a success and all the participants completed their course work. The participants appreciated the training and said it couldn’t come at a better time than this one when the children needed guidance and support in their day to day life. There was a high level of willingness to learn from the participants and this was by them asking questions and also participating in the activities that had been prepared.

Objectives of training were;

  1. To build the capacity of Community Counselors in understanding Children at risk and child related offenses vs the Law.
  2. To empower community counselors with relevant counseling skills to manage children .
  3. To equip the youth with skills that which enhance delayed sex

All the objectives were met

The participants were glad to have their capacities built in the area of children and law. All the participants expressed joy that they now understood how well to manage and counsel children who are exposed to crime, are at risk of being exposed to crime and indeed been involved in criminal activities. The participants further pledged to do better now that they have attained some skills in counseling children who are in contact with the law or are at risk.

The training helped open the participants minds as most of them shared their own stories in relation to children’s needs and how they react to unmet needs.
